Women’s Swimming and Diving Takes Down UConn to Wrap Up Winning Weekend

STORRS, Conn. – Villanova Women's Swimming and Diving closed out its two-day road trip with a 186.5-113.5 victory over UConn on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats posted 11 event wins to cap off a strong opening weekend to the season.

Villanova opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay as the A team clocked in at 1:43.66, while the B team secured third at 1:45.66.

Peri Gaguzis led the Wildcats in the 1000 Free, winning in 10:22.13. Riley Hull finished third in 10:31.95 and Marlene Blanke was fourth in 10:39.39.

The Wildcats claimed the top two spots in the 200 Free as Riley Kudlac touched first in 1:53.26, followed by Martina Lonati in 1:53.83. Amylia Higgins added a fifth-place finish in 1:54.74.

In the 100 Back, Kayla Bolster earned first with a time of 56.01, followed by Alana Leen in third at 57.28. Winnie Jalet finished second in the 100 Breast at 1:04.84, and Emily Herr placed fourth in 1:05.77.

Villanova dominated the 200 Fly, sweeping the top three spots. Anna Farley won in 2:03.67, Katie White was second in 2:04.42 and Meghan Tiernan third in 2:04.88. Anna Kilponen rounded out the top five in 2:05.92.

Carlota Colomer Guasch placed second in the 50 Free (23.82), followed by Bolster in third (23.85) and Kudlac in fourth (24.11). Bolster led the Wildcats in the 100 Free with a second-place finish in 51.49. Lonati captured third with a time of 52.24, and Colomer Guasch was fifth in 52.61.

Leen earned a victory in the 200 Back, touching the wall in 2:01.44. Imogen Duffy added a fourth-place finish in 2:05.73. Herr took second in the 200 Breast (2:21.44), with Jalet fourth (2:24.82) and Annie Honkamp fifth in (2:26.06).

Lonati led a strong showing in the 500 Fee, winning in 5:04.96. Hull placed third with a time of 5:06.76, and White followed in fourth at 5:08.46. In the 100 Fly, Kilponen claimed the top spot in 55.63, with Anna Farley placing second (55.78).

The Wildcats swept the top four spots in the 200 IM, with Leen winning in 2:06.55. Herr was second in 2:07.91, Tiernan third in 2:08.02 and Duffy fourth in 2:09.83.

Villanova closed the meet with a win in the 400 free relay the A team combined for a time of 3:28.52. The B team finished third in 3:35.99.

In diving, Meghan Scott earned first place on the 1-meter with a score of 248.40, followed by Michelle Kasulka in second at 244.20 and Katie Vaughan in fifth at 226.65. Scott added a third-place finish on the 3-meter with 233.33 points. Vaughan (230.70) and Alexa Fegley (227.10) rounded out the top five.

The Wildcats will take on Georgetown for a dual meet on Saturday, October 25th.
