One final contest sits between Villanova and a trip to the postseason for the first time since 2019 as Butler comes to town Saturday for an Alumni Day contest. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
Villanova (9-8, 4-5 BIG EAST) is on the verge of making its first BIG EAST Tournament appearance since 2019. The top four teams make it into the field and the Wildcats sit tied for fourth at 12 points alongside Creighton heading into Saturday's regular season finale. A win over Butler will send the 'Cats into the postseason so long as Creighton either loses to or ties with St. John's. That contest is set to begin at 2 p.m. Should the 'Cats tie with the Bulldogs, they would need a Creighton loss and a Providence loss or draw with DePaul (1 p.m. kickoff) to get into the field.
The Wildcats look to avoid their four-match losing streak since 2022 on Saturday, closing the month of October with three consecutive losses. Butler (5-4-7, 2-3-4 BIG EAST) comes in boasting a three-match unbeaten streak, picking up 1-1 draws in both of its last two games with St. John's and Creighton after a 2-0 win over Seton Hall. The Bulldogs are 1-3-4 on the road this year with a 0-2-2 mark in conference road tilts, scoring just three goals in those matches.
Butler has been strong on the offensive side of the ball, sitting third in league for shots per game (15.50), shots on goal per game (6.25) and total points (81). The group is led by All-BIG EAST and United Soccer Coaches All-East Region forward Talia Sommer who has accounted for at least a point in two of the team's last three games. She leads the Bulldogs in scoring with 19 points on six goals and seven assists.
Villanova is 4-7-2 all-time against Butler. The 'Cats have not seen a win in the series since a 1-0 victory in 2014. They have gone 0-3-2 in the last five meetings and are 1-3-1 when hosting the Bulldogs.
