VILLANOVA, Pa. – With two Finneran Pavilion victories in the Villanova Challenge already secured, the Wildcats close out the three-game November MTE Saturday night against Duquesne at 8 p.m.
Â
TruTV will carry the broadcast nationally with Brendan Glasheen, Jim Spanarkel and sideline reporter Jared Greenberg courtside at Finneran Pavilion to describe the action. This marks the first ever broadcast by Turner Sports from Villanova's campus. The network is part of a new multi-network agreement with the BIG EAST that went into effect in 2025-26. This is one of nine appearances by the Wildcats on Turner this season.
Â
The Villanova Sports Radio Network on IHeart will have the audio broadcast featuring Ryan Fannon and
Whitey Rigsby.
Â
Villanova downed Queens 94-74 last Saturday night in the opener of the Villanova Challenge. They followed that with an even more impressive 94-60 triumph Tuesday evening over Sacred Heart. The Wildcats established a new program record by draining 22 3-pointers, the most by a BIG EAST squad since Creighton sank 22 on Dec. 20, 2018, vs Coe University.
Â
Sophomore guard
Bryce Lindsay also set a new Nova record, dropping in a single-game high of nine triples for 27 points. Graduate transfer
Devin Askew also connected for 27 points, including seven from beyond the arc.
Â
"The perfect amount of 3's," quipped head coach
Kevin Willard of his team's 43 attempts from long range.
Â
Crisp ball movement played a role in the near flawless shooting display Tuesday night. Villanova's 28 assists in 40 minutes were one shy of their total (29) in its first two games of 2025-26. It is their most in a game since Nov. 14, 2017, when they also had 28 vs. Nicholls.
Â
"We had 28 assists," noted Lindsay. "I thank God we're getting that team chemistry down. We understand where and who takes the shots they want."
Â
"To do that early in the year," added Willard, "is pretty darn good.
Â
"All these guys are starting to understand that if they do the right thing, play the right way, they have total freedom. I think that's what we saw a little bit of (Tuesday)."
Â
Added Askew, "Absolutely I feel that (freedom). We've got a really good team and when everyone jells together, like Coach said, everyone feels the freedom."
Â
Another key to the Wildcats' early success has been their efforts on the glass. As of Thursday, senior transfer
Duke Brennan led the nation in rebounding at 15.3 per outing. In its last two contests, the Wildcats have pulled down 34 offensive boards.
Â
The Dukes come to Villanova with a 3-0 record, having downed Queens 87-81 in overtime Tuesday night in Pittsburgh at UMPC Cooper Fieldhouse. These programs were rivals in the old Eastern Eight during the 1970s before Villanova joined the BIG EAST ahead of the 1980-81 season. The all-time series is deadlocked at 25. The last meeting came in the 1994 National Invitation Tournament.
Â
A reminder to those attending Saturday night's renewal of a rivalry dormant since 1994; Villanova Football hosts Stony Brook earlier that day at 1 p.m. in Villanova Stadium. Lots surrounding the stadium will be unavailable for basketball parking until after 5:30 p.m.
Â
Villanova Athletics, in partnership with Villanova University and the Center for the Common Good is holding a Thanksgiving Food Drive Saturday night. Those attending the game are encouraged to bring canned goods (cranberry sauce, vegetables, beans); jars (apple sauce, turkey gravy, peanut butter) and other items (stuffing, rice, lentils, aluminum pan). The drive benefits the North Light Community Center and other pantries in the area.
Â
Donations may be placed in bins near the entry points at Finneran Pavilion.
