Events Set to Celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day

VILLANOVA, Pa. – National Girls and Women in Sports Day is coming up on February 5 and a handful of events have been slated within Villanova Athletics this week to celebrate the day with the theme "Unlocking Her Potential".

The annual celebration comes on the first Wednesday of February to honor the achievements of girls and women in sports. This year marks the 39th year of the celebration by the Women's Sports Foundation.

The celebrations kick off Wednesday morning with the NGWSD Breakfast at the McNulty Institute for Women's Leadership. On Thursday, Feb. 6, a pair of conversations with Dr. Kate Ackerman titled "Breaking Barriers for Women Athletes Through Science, Medicine and Advocacy" will take place in the athletic department to bring together faculty, staff and student-athletes.

The women's rowing team will host a "Learn to Row" event midday Friday that is open to all female faculty and staff. The team will hold two sessions inside Jake Nevin Field House to teach people how to row on the ergometer.

The week concludes with the NGWSD women's basketball game versus Creighton on February 8. There will be a special halftime panel with a few female student-athletes.
