Gus Vickers carded his second lowest career round after sinking seven birdies; Vibhav Alokam tied his career low round

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Villanova finished fourth out of 20 teams on day one of The People's Championship in Georgia. They were able to notch the 23rd-best round in the five-year history of this event, shooting 280 as a team.

The Wildcats sit closely behind UNC Greensboro, Davidson, and Richmond, entering day two of the three-day event.

Villanova shot five under across all par five holes, with Gus Vickers and Vibhav Alokam shooting five under combined between the two of them. VU also recorded the fifth most pars (58) and third most birdies (19).

Vickers regrouped after shooting 36 (+1) on the front nine, by capturing his second lowest collegiate round, and lowest as a Wildcat, carding 32 (-4), for a total of 68 (-3). His 68 ranks within the top 40 of all rounds played in the four years this tournament has been held. Vickers currently ranks tied for ninth in the event and also led VU with seven birdies on the day, tied for second among all competitors.

Vibhav Alokam continued his stellar freshman campaign by tying his career-lowest round of 69 (-2). He shot one under on both nine and birdied three holes on the first day.

Matt Zerfass is tied for 18th after the first day of the tournament. After shooting 38 (+3) on the front nine, the junior was able to birdie four of the last eight holes on the way to a 32 (-4) final stretch. Zerfass carded a 70 (-1), helped by shooting one under across all par fours.

Ryan Pamer was able to find his groove on the back nine after a triple bogey on hole three held him down on the leaderboard through the turn. Pamer shot one under across the next 15 holes to finish out the day at 73 (+2).

Ian Love carded 80 (+9) on day one and tallied three birdies.

Joshua Lavely shot 82 (+11), helped by totaling 40 (+4) on the back nine. He continued his trend of playing very well on par fives, going even on the day.

The Wildcats will tee off in 10-minute intervals starting with Lavely at 9:10 A.M. on day two.
