Men's Golf Tied for Fifth After Day One in Virginia

Villanova has two golfers in the top 20; Jackson Lehner and Ryan Pamer are tied for 11th and 18th, respectively, after the first two rounds

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Men's Golf continued their stellar play into the spring season by finishing tied for fifth overall out of 14 teams at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate hosted by the College of William & Mary.

This is the third consecutive stroke play event that Villanova has placed within the top five teams on the first day.

Villanova shot 288 (+4) and 293 (+9) on their two trips around the course today. They are tied with Navy at 13-over (581).

After the first two rounds, Longwood is in the lead at one under 567.

Jackson Lehner shone in his return to competition for the first time since BIG EAST Match Play. He shot 70 (-1) in round one, including three-under (33) on the front nine. The senior followed that up by shooting two-over (73) in the second round. Lehner recorded a team-high seven birdies on the first day of the event and currently is tied for 11th place at 143 (+1).

Ryan Pamer bogeyed three of his first six holes at the event but quickly locked into gear, shooting even over his next 12 holes in the first round, ending the round at 74 (+3), going into the break. Pamer got down to business in round two, shooting up over 30 spots on the leaderboard by recording the best score by a Wildcat in the second round. He shot 71 (E) and carded a par or less on 17 of the 18 holes. After the first day, Pamer is tied for 18th place at 145 (+3).

Pamer will tee off on day two with Justin LaRue from Longwood, who is currently tied for the individual lead at six-under (136).

Gus Vickers picked up where he left off in Georgia, birdying five holes in round one. He shot 73 (+2) in round one and followed that up with a 74 (+3) round to finish the day. He finished second on the team with six birdies. Vickers is tied for 32nd at 147 (+5) after the first two rounds of the event.

Vibhav Alokam is tied for 41st after the first two rounds. The freshman shot four-over (75), tallying three birdies in the second round, following up the first time around, where he shot three-over (74).

Matt Zerfass started the day in the top 10 for much of the first round, shooting 71 (E) in the tournament's lidlifter, recording five birdies, while playing to a score of one-under (35) on the front nine. The junior's second time around the course, he shot 10-over (81).

Nathan Marion played as an individual on day one, shooting 10-over (152). He started off the day shooting 75 (+4) in round one and carded 77 (+6) his second time around. Marion birdied four holes across the day.

Marion and Zerfass are tied for 58th individually after the first two rounds.

The Wildcats will play one more round of 18 on Tuesday, March 25, to determine the team and individual champions of this event.
