Pappas Leads The 'Cats To Another BIG EAST Win

CINCINNATI, OH - Villanova women's lacrosse takes down Xavier 18-9 on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats are now 10-4 and 4-1 in BIG EAST play.

Sydney PappasĀ had for goals, helping to lead the team to victory. Elena Torres and Bella Piselli both followed suit with hat tricks. Torres, Maddy Stoddard and Skylar Nixon all had two caused turnovers. Cate Gallagher had 9 saves.Ā Villanova totaled 22 draw controls with Emma Verhoest grabbing 17Ā of them,Ā breaking her own record for most draw controls in a game.

Pappas was able to score the first goal of the game with Jillian vaughts help. The Musketeers answered back quickly, before the 'Cats went on a four goal run. Pappas finds Torres for her first goal of the game.Ā  Sophia Corretjer netted the ball at 3:46 unassisted. Sami Carey found Rose Christie for the next goal.Ā  Freshman Lauren Redfern passed to Pappas, who scores her second goal with ten seconds left.

Xavier scored the first goal in the seconded quarter. Leslie Iorio earned a free position and found the back of the net to put the Wildcats up 2-6. Piselli then earned her first goal of the game unassisted. Vaught scored off a free position. The Musketeers score again , but Pappas was able score shortly after, starting a six goal run for the 'Cats. Torres scores her second goal with 3:59 on the clock, Piselli netted a free position goal just before the end of the half, making the score 11-4.

Christie got the momentum going in the second half, with Pappas scoring quickly after. Madison Freeman scores unassisted, putting the Wildcats up 10. Torres scored her third goal just before the clock ran out.

In the fourth quarter,Piselli netted one more, advancing the score to 16-6. RedfernĀ got a free position and found the back of the net. at 5:54, Katie Giordano ripped the ball into the net with the help of Lindsay Kupka. The Musketeers scores two goals before the game clock ran out.

The Wildcats will be back on the road as they travel to Maryland to play Richmond on Saturday.
