WASHINGTON, D.C. – Men's Lacrosse was outlasted by Georgetown University in Friday night's contest by a score of
Villanova clinches the share of the BIG EAST Regular Season Title and will be the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament.
The 4-1 mark that Mike Corrado and the team achieved this year ties the best conference finish as a program during five-game conference slates, which was also matched in 2004 and 2017.
David Link and Colin Michener led the way, tallying six and four points, respectively.
Link is the first Wildcat to tally five assists in a game since Matt Campbell on April 1, 2023, against St. John's. He also picked up four ground balls.
Michener totaled his seventh consecutive game with at least three points.
Georgetown shot out to a 2-0 lead before Luke Raymond picked up where he left off after the Marquette game, striking first for VU.
The Hoyas struck twice more; however, this time, Villanova answered back as Jake Melchionni and Lucas Newton netted goals. Melchionni's was his third score in his last two games.
Dan Martin and Raymond kept the scoring going for the Wildcats as the first quarter came to a close, knotted at five.
VU was held scoreless for the next 13:29 while Georgetown went on a six-goal run. Matt Licata was able to tally one to cut the deficit to five at 11-6 heading into halftime.
Anthony Wilson relieved Fargione midway through the second stanza for his first appearance since February 22 against Colgate. The redshirt sophomore saved eight shots, playing to a .500% save percentage.
The Hoyas went on another run, scoring three unanswered over the first 9:46 of the second half to go up 14-6, until Link scored off an assist from Michener. In the contest, Link made his first start since March 8 at Penn.
Michener and Link reversed the process for Michener's first score of the game.
Villanova's final score of the game came off the stick of Licata, in his final career regular season game.
George Glomb took the majority of faceoffs for his second game during conference action. He went 10-16 (.625%) for his third game above .600% with a minimum of 10 attempts.
For the Hoyas, Ransom netted a BIG EAST regular season record of nine goals, and goalie Anderson Moore saved eight shots.
