EASTON, Pa. – Men's Golf sits in second place, one stroke behind with Sacred Heart at six over 294 after one day at the Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational hosted by Lafayette College.
All of Villanova's starting five are within the top 30 after day one in a tournament with 101 players.
THE LINEUP (1-5 ORDER LISTED FIRST, INDIVIDUALS LISTED BY FINISH)
Jackson Lehner was the only Wildcat to shoot under par in a round on day one, as he shot one-under 35 on the front nine. He is tied for 11th at par (72).
Ryan Pamer carded a one-over 73 finish through the first round of the event. The junior shot even on the back nine and sits tied for 17th after day one.
Vibhav Alokam worked himself into trouble, recording two double bogeys to start the back nine. The freshman was able to then rattle off two birdies over the next three holes, erasing one and leaving the other as the only blemish on his round one score of two-over 74, tying him for 22nd.
Gus Vickers shot one-over 37 on the front nine and two-over 38 on the back nine to tie for 28th at three-over 75 through the first day of the event.
The top four Villanova golfers all tallied three birdies apiece, leading the 11-man squad.
Matt Zerfass is tied with Vickers in 28th and shot two identical rounds on day one at three-over 75.
Joshua Lavely is the highest-placed Wildcat individual after the first day of competition, shooting three-over 75, tying him with Vickers and Zerfass overall. He shot even on the back nine to help himself rank as the third best individual out of 21 after the first round.
Nathan Marion and Ian Love are tied for 41st at five over 77 after shooting identical rounds in reverse. Marion started with a four-over 40 on the first nine and cleaned it up with a one-over 37 on the other way around. Love started hot, shooting one-over 37 on the front nine, including leading the event through three holes, but was unable to keep pace, shooting four over 40 to end the day.
Peter Barros shot seven-over 79 and is tied for 63rd.
Cameron Besaw is tied for 77th after round one after shooting nine-over 81.
Vimal Alokam carded 11-over 83 in the first round. He currently is tied for 90th.
