Justin Miller (Collierville, Tenn.) earned his second straight BIG EAST medal in the long jump and Villanova had a pair of scorers in men's shot put for the fourth consecutive conference meet as the 2025 BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships presented by JEEP continued at the George J. The performances in Friday's field events and a quartet of scorers in the 5000 meters have the Wildcats in second place in the team standings going into the final day of competition which begins on Saturday morning. Villanova has 40 team points with 14 of the 22 events in the meet program still to be scored. In preliminary heats which were contested on Friday afternoon, the Wildcats qualified seven athletes for the final in their respective events.
Miller recorded a jump of 7.21 meters on his second attempt of the day to finish in third place, matching his result from the indoor conference championships earlier this year. It is the third All-BIG EAST honor of Miller's career, with two of those podium performances coming in the long jump to go along with anchoring the 4x100 meter relay to a third place finish last year. Miller was a multi-event athlete who competed at Memphis earlier in his collegiate career, and in his first year at Villanova in in 2024 competed in the long jump, javelin and 4x100 relay outdoors.
He has focused exclusively on the long jump in his final collegiate campaign and has taken his success to new heights. His body of work during the outdoor campaign includes PRs of 7.37 meters at the Raleigh Relays in March and 7.57 meters at the Virginia Challenge last month. He is likely to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Fla. later this month.
Anderson threw 14.44 meters in the shot put, followed by Coulter with a mark of 14.12 meters and fifth year
Temi Ajirotutu (Queens, N.Y.) who recorded a personal best distance of 13.17 meters to finish in 10
th place. The fifth place result is the best of Anderson's career, and he is now a six-time BIG EAST scorer overall. Coulter moved up three spots from where he finished indoors in his BIG EAST Championships debut and is a conference scorer for the first time.
After opening the day with a throw of 12.36 meters, Anderson surged four spots in the standings with a mark of 13.57 meters on his second attempt. That was good enough to keep him in the top nine and earn a spot in the final round; he was officially in eighth place out of 11 competitors after throwing 14.11 meters on his third attempt. Anderson moved up three more spots into fifth place when he recorded the distance of 14.44 meters on his fifth attempt. Coulter, meanwhile, tallied his mark of 14.12 meters on both his second and fifth throws of the day.
