Owners of a four-game winning streak, Villanova hits the road the first of its two final nonconference matches as it heads to Princeton Thursday for a 7 p.m.
Villanova (4-2) has not allowed a goal in 403:26 minutes of action since a 2-0 loss at then-No. 10 Wake Forest. Since then, the Wildcats have outscored their opponents 8-0,. Their latest outing was a 4-0 win over Lehigh on Sunday, the team's second four-goal game of the Samar Azem era. The Blue and White defensive unit has built the second-best goals against average (.667) and save percentage (.826) with its conference-best four shutouts. They are in nation's top 65 in all three stats, currently tied for 21st for shutouts.
On the flip side, Princeton (0-2-3), the reigning Ivy League regular season and tournament champion, is still in search of its first win on the season, recording draws against Syracuse and Miami in its last two games. The Tigers have not been shy when it comes to shooting, leading the Ivy League with 21.80 shots per game, a number that lands it sixth nationally. Nina Cantor leads the Tigers with 3.40 shots per game, placing her at second in the league and 62nd nationally.
The last time Villanova and Princeton met was back on Sept. 19, 2019 when Villanova stopped a five-game losing streak to the Tigers with a 2-2 draw. Since the series began in 1983, the Wildcats trail 7-15-2. Their last win was a 2-1 win on Nov. 14, 2023. Their last win at Princeton was on Oct. 13, 1993, leaving New Jersey with a 2-0 victory.
