Weekly Wrap: Villanova Announces Top Performers for the Week Ending September 7

New for the 2025-26 academic year, Villanova will announce its top performers from the previous week in a press release and social media post each Monday afternoon. The weekly wrap will recognize one standout student-athlete from each sport who competed during the previous week.

VILLANOVA, Pa.—This week's volleyball BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week highlights an impressive list of six student-athletes who make up the third edition of the Villanova weekly wrap. Sophomore middle blocker Campbell McKinnon (Collierville, Tenn.) totaled 49 kills, 11 blocks and four service aces across three matches to help the Wildcats extend their undefeated start to the season to 5-0. She averaged 3.77 kills per set while hitting .580 in wins over Yale, Fairfield and High Point.

Graduate forward Hannah Curtin (Winchester, Mass.) from women's soccer is the second athlete this Fall season to earn multiple weekly wrap nods. The standout athletes from last week's events also included graduate wide receiver Luke Colella (Wexford, Pa.) from football, junior golfer Ryan Pamer (Hudson, Ohio), men's soccer sophomore goalkeeper Alex Yagudayev (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and field hockey first year goalie Sophie Volkel (Hamburg, Germany).

Top Performers of the Week

Volleyball
Campbell McKinnon (Sophomore, Middle Blocker, Collierville, Tenn.)

McKinnon is the BIG EAST leader in hitting percentage by more than 100 percentage points and earned the first weekly conference honor of her career with this week's Offensive Player of the Week selection. She was named the Tournament MVP of the Villanova Classic after recording a career-high 19 kills against Yale to go along with 17 kills and a .750 hitting percentage versus High Point. McKinnon added 13 kills and five blocks in a win over Fairfield.

Women's Soccer
Hannah Curtin (Graduate Student, Forward, Winchester, Mass.)

Curtin has scored game-winning goals in each of the Wildcats last two games and this week earned her second straight BIG EAST Honor Roll selection. She netted the first tally in a 4-0 win over Lehigh in Villanova's only game of the week and is the Wildcats first player since September of last season to garner BIG EAST recognition in consecutive weeks.

Football
Luke Colella (Graduate Student, Wide Receiver, Wexford, Pa.)

In his Villanova debut on Saturday evening, Colella recorded five catches for a career-high 124 yards in a 24-17 season-opening win over Colgate. The graduate transfer from Princeton hauled in a 51-yard catch on the Wildcats second drive of the game to set up the team's first points of the season on a one-yard run moments later. Colella also had a 44-yard reception later in the contest and surpassed both 1,200 and 1,300 career receiving yards during the contest.

Golf
Ryan Pamer (Junior, Hudson, Ohio)

Pamer was Villanova's top finisher in the Alex Lagowitz Memorial at Colgate to open the team's Fall season. He tied for fifth place overall and shot even par over 72 holes, including a second round spread over two days in which he recorded five birdies and finished at two under for the round. He wound up carding scores of 74-72-70 (216, E).

Field Hockey
Sophie Volkel (First Year, Goalkeeper, Hamburg, Germany)

Volkel saw extended playing time in the Wildcats game at Fairfield last week. She logged 38:53 in the cage and made two saves, one in the second quarter and another on a deft move to her right to stop a penalty stroke in the third period. Volkel is a member of the German U21 national team and has seen action in two of the first three games for Villanova this season.

Men's Soccer
Alex Yagudayev (Sophomore, Goalkeeper, Brooklyn, N.Y.)

Villanova posted its third clean sheet in four games to start the 2025 campaign and tallied a 0-0 draw at Columbia last week. Yagudayev saw playing time in six games as a freshman last season and has recorded shutouts in both games he has played in so far this year. He is 1-0-1 against Saint Joseph's and Columbia while making four saves and facing 19 total shots without giving up a goal.
