Villanova to Celebrate Raveling as it Hosts Georgetown

Wildcats and Hoyas to meet Wednesday at 7 p.m.

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova got back to work Monday afternoon with a practice at Finneran Pavilion as it eyes its next opportunity. That comes Wednesday night when Georgetown (9-9 overall, 1-6 BIG EAST) comes to campus for a midweek conference clash.

The Hoyas and Wildcats are set to meet just after 7 p.m. (NBC Sports Network and Peacock along with the Villanova Sports Radio Network (Fox Sports Radio Philadelphia, iHeart App, SiriusXM channel 85 and the TuneIn App).

A limited number of tickets are available by clicking the link at the top of this page.

Throughout the game, Villanova will honor the life and legacy of Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer George Raveling, class of 1960. Raveling died at the age of 88 after a decorated career as a player for head coach Alexander Severance, coach (assistant to Jack Kraft at his alma mater followed by head coaching stints at Washington State, Iowa, and USC) and executive at Nike.

At 4 p.m., Nike presents a special screening of the new documentary film "UnRaveling George", highlighting Raveling's life at the Connelly Center. Spots are still available to attend this event – which includes a panel discussion that includes former Villanova head coach Jay Wright – and can be secured by clicking the link at the top of the page.

During the basketball game Raveling's life of achievement – he was on stage for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's "I have a dream" speech in 1963 and was handed the original copy of the speech by King – will be celebrated. Both Georgetown and Villanova will don specially designed shooting shirts and Nike has provided a new shoe design to both squads, the "Book 2 Raveling shoes, Air Force 1s". There will be other elements acknowledging Raveling during the game.

The Wildcats will look to bounce back after Saturday night's 86-79 loss at Xfinity Mobile Arena to surging St. John's. The experienced Red Storm grabbed nine offensive rebounds and that helped ignite a potent offensive attack.

"That's a great win," stated St. John's coach Rick Pitino. "That's a terrific Villanova team."

For the Wildcats' young roster, it was another lesson learned.

"A front line like that is different," said Villanova head coach of the Red Storm's forward crew that features BIG EAST preseason player of the year Zuby Ejiofor and Providence transfer Bryce Hopkins. "It's something that I have to adjust to a little better. I have to make better adjustments because we got killed on the glass against Michigan and St. John's. It's kind of what they did in the second half."
Georgetown swept the Wildcats by a total of three points last season. The Hoyas rallied past Villanova 64-63 in a game that wasn't decided until the final possession at Finneran Pavilion. This year's edition nearly knocked off No. 2 UConn Saturday, falling 64-62 at Capital One Arena.

Mike Corey and Brendan Haywood will have the television call while Ryan Fannon and Whitey Rigsby will describe the action for the Nova Nation audience.

On Monday, graduate transfer guard Devin Askew was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll after averaging 20.5 ppg last week for the 'Cats. A native of Sacramento, Cal., the 6-5 Askew has raised his season scoring average to 9.9 points per game. He also has 35 assists with just 17 turnovers on the season.

Said Askew on Saturday night: "We've just got to keep getting better, day by day."
