Wildcats Head to St. John's Saturday

Villanova returns to action on Saturday, January 24, with a road game at St. John's. The Wildcats enter play with a 15-4 overall record and an 8-2 BIG EAST mark, while St. John's is 15-6 on the year and 5-5 in league play. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m., at Carnesecca Arena. The game can be seen live on FS1.

Saturday's game between Villanova and the St. John's Red Storm will be the 81st all-time meeting be­tween the schools. Villanova leads the all-time series by a 51-29 count. Villanova has won 12 of the last 13 against the Red Storm and are 19-5 in its last 24 games versus St. John's.

This will be the second meeting of the season between the two teams. In the first match-up on Decem­ber 22, the Wildcats tallied a convincing 85-48 home win over the Red Storm. Five Wildcats reached double figures in the win led by Jas­mine Bascoe who had a game-high 21 points. Ryanne Allen finished with 13 points, while Kelsey Joens had 12 points. Denae Carter and Brynn McCurry added 10 points each. Bascoe also dished out a ca­reer-high nine assists, while Carter pulled-down a game-high nine re­bounds. St. John's was paced by Shaulana Wagner and Brooke Moore who had 11 points each. For the game, Villanova shot 50.7 percent from the field (34-of-67), 52.4 percent from three-point range (11-of-21) and 54.5 percent from the foul line (6-of-11), while the Red Storm shot 42.9 percent from the floor (21-of-49), 13.3 percent from long dis­tance (2-of-15) and 44.4 percent from the charity stripe (4-of-9). The Wildcats owned a 41-25 advantage on the backboards.

Of all the opponents Villanova has faced over the years, the Wildcats have played St. John's the second most of any team at 80 times (Villanova leads 51-29). Providence is the team that the Wildcats have played the most at 86 times.

Despite the loss at Connecticut on Jan. 15, the Wildcats enter play on Saturday at St. John's having won 13 of the last 15 games. Villanova had won 10 in a row before losing at Mar­quette on Jan. 4.

Villanova returns home on Tuesday, Jan. 27, to take on the Providence College Friars. Game time at the Finneran Pavilion is set for 7 p.m.
