Villanova is coming off an incredible 2025 season in which it tallied a 12-3 overall record and earned playoff wins over Harvard, Lehigh and Tarleton State. The postseason run was one of the most impressive in the past several seasons for the Wildcats, who became only the second team in the 48-year history of the FCS playoffs to host a semifinal game after playing back-to-back road games in the previous two rounds. During the season, Villanova reeled off 11 consecutive victories to tie the second-longest winning streak in program history.

New beginnings and new experiences will be part of the 2026 season as the Wildcats embark on their first year as a member of the Patriot League. Villanova will continue to compete against longtime conference rivals Richmond and William & Mary who have each joined the conference as associate members in football over the past two years. There is plenty of familiarity for the Wildcats with the seven existing football members of the Patriot League as well. Villanova has played six of those seven schools at least once within the last 10 years and will renew a gridiron rivalry with Georgetown in the 2026 regular season home finale.
