Villanova Falls at No. 10 Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Villanova women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-5 decision to No. 10 Navy on Saturday afternoon in Annapolis. With the loss, the Wildcats move to 1-1 on the season.

Villanova struck first as Elena Torres found the back of the net at the 13:58 mark of the opening quarter off an assist from Sophia Corretjer. After Navy responded with four straight goals, the Wildcats battled back late in the first period. Leslie Iorio scored off a feed from Jillian Vaught and Rose Christie added an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to 4-3. Navy answered before the end of the quarter to take a 5-3 lead into the second.

The Midshipmen used an eight-goal second quarter to create separation, heading into halftime with a 13-3 advantage. Navy was paced by Alyssa Chung, who finished with seven goals, while Taylor Miles recorded three goals and six assists.

Mary Moore capitalized on a free-position attempt midway through the third quarter for the Wildcats' fourth goal of the contest. In the fourth, Bella Piselli netted another goal off an assist from Ashlyn Hickey but the 'Cats ultimately dropped the contest 18-5.

In goal, Makenzie Fisher recorded a new career high with 13 saves. Emma Verhoest added 10 draw controls for the Wildcats and Kate O'Neill contributed two ground balls, two caused turnovers and a pair of draws won.

Villanova will look to bounce back in its next outing against Saint Joseph's on Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. at Villanova Stadium.
