Weekly Wrap: Villanova Announces Top Performers for the Week Ending February 15

New for the 2025-26 academic year, Villanova will announce its top performers from the previous week in a press release and social media post each Monday afternoon. The weekly wrap will recognize one standout student-athlete from each sport who competed during the previous week.

VILLANOVA, Pa.—It was a jam-packed week for Villanova Athletics with a total of 29 events from February 9-15, including 26 in a three-day span over the weekend. The women's track & field team saw three school records fall in an incredible two-day span at the Husky Classic in Seattle, while the men's track & field team had a school record in the 3000 meters to go along with the 50th and 51st sub-four-minute milers in program history achieving the feat for the first time in their careers in Boston. The men's and women's basketball teams each posted two BIG EAST wins, with the women's team clinching a top three finish in the regular season standings. This week's edition of the Weekly Wrap features 11 student-athletes whose performances stood out over the past week. The Villanova Athletics Weekly Wrap is sponsored by Zajac and Padilla.

Baseball
Graham Moore
Senior, Pitcher, Jacksonville, Fla.

Moore pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his first career save as Villanova knocked off FIU, 7-4, in its season opener on Friday night. It took just 11 pitches for Moore to retire the side, including a swinging strikeout for the final out of the night. Moore came back on Sunday and pitched two scoreless innings in what was then a tie game. He stranded an inherited runner in the bottom of the fourth inning and departed a 1-1 contest in an eventual 4-3 loss. Opposing batters were just 1-for-10 against Moore in his two outings.

Men's Basketball
Tyler Perkins
Junior, Guard, Lorton, Va.

Perkins averaged 19.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while helping lead Villanova to a 77-74 win over Marquette and an 80-69 victory at Creighton during the week. He led the Wildcats with 22 points in a narrow come-from-behind win to start the week, including a pair of free throws with 25 seconds to play which helped secure the outcome. Perkins added his second double-double of the season at Creighton with 17 points and 11 rebounds. He shot 14-of-28 from the field during the week, including 6-of-12 from three.

Women's Basketball
Kennedy Henry
Freshman, Guard, Hockessin, Del.

One of the top collegiate rookies in the country on the defensive side of the ball was up to her usual tricks in a big way as Villanova won a pair of BIG EAST road games and secured no worse than a third-place finish in the regular season conference standings. Henry had the most steals by any BIG EAST player this season with nine swipes in a 78-38 romp at Xavier. She also helped key a 74-64 win at Creighton with her second-highest scoring output of the season, going for 17 points, four rebounds and four more steals.

Men's Lacrosse
Luke Raymond
Graduate Student, Attack/Midfield, Crownsville, Md.

Raymond scored a career-high four goals in Villanova's home opener against local foe Saint Joseph's. He netted the Wildcats first goal of the game in the first quarter, then scored twice in a span of just 58 seconds late in the second period. His final tally of the day came with 3:49 left in the game and was the final goal by either team as Villanova attempted a late rally in an eventual 11-9 setback. Raymond had eight shots and added to his offensive output with a caused turnover and a ground ball.

Women's Lacrosse
Emma Verhoest, Junior, Midfield/Draw, Newton, Mass.

After ranking eighth in the country in draw controls per game last season, Verhoest picked up right where she left off and is already ranked eighth nationally this season with 19 draw controls through the Wildcats first two games of the season. She tallied her 13th career game with double-digit draws when she had 10 at Navy versus the No. 10 team in the country. Verhoest added nine draw controls earlier in the week as Villanova opened the season with a dominant 15-6 home win over Towson.

Softball
Maddie Burrows
Senior, Second Base, Waterford, Conn.

Burrows has been the Wildcats offensive catalyst through the first two weeks of the season. She has batted leadoff in each of the last six games and leads Villanova with a .452 on-base percentage in her first 31 plate appearances of the year. Burrows is tied for the team lead with four walks and has also been hit by a pitch a team-high four times. She is batting .261 with a double, three runs scored, two runs batted in and one stolen base.

Men's Tennis
Thomas Wakefield

Wakefield was a winner in straight sets at the No. 5 singles spot against Navy to open the week. He tallied a 6-0, 6-3 victory for the Wildcats only point of the match. A day later, Wakefield moved up to No. 3 singles for the second time this season in a match at George Mason. He has posted singles wins against both Howard and Navy during the Spring season to date.

Women's Tennis
Maggie Gehrig
Senior, Charlotte, N.C.

Gehrig clinched Villanova's third straight team victory in thrilling fashion at Bucknell as she rallied in three sets at No. 2 singles for the final point in a 4-3 team decision. Gehrig outlasted her opponent for a 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 victory after earlier teaming with senior Emi Callahan for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles. She was back at No. 2 singles a day later versus Navy as the Wildcats fell by a 6-1 team score.

In addition to officially taking over the NCAA lead this season, Langon recorded the third-fastest indoor 3K time in collegiate history. He has broken the Villanova records in the 3000 meters and the 5000 meters this season and is the top-ranked collegiate runner in both events. He ranks No. 53 by athlete in world history in the 3000 meters.

She ran the 800 meter leg of the DMR a day earlier and had a split of 2:01.7, another school indoor record for the fastest-ever relay split at that distance.
