OCALA, Fla. - Villanova Swimming and Diving came out strong on the opening day of the BIG EAST Championship in Ocala, Florida. Day one of competition was highlighted by three champion titles, silver and bronze relay finishes, and three new school records, marking an impressive start for the Wildcats.
After the first day of races, the Villanova women stand in first place with 252 points, while the men are in second with 66 points.
In the 200 Medley Relay, the quartet of Kayla Bolster, Winnie Jalet, Anna Kilponen and Carlota Colomer Guasch captured the title while setting a new program record with a time of 1:39.31.
The 800 Free Relay team of Anna Farley, Guasch, Bolster and Riley Kudlac followed with another champion title performance, clocking a 7:14.47 to move into seventh place on Villanova's all-time performers list.
In the 3 meter dive, Michelle Kasulka claimed the title with a score of 274.20.
On the men's side, the 200 Medley Relay team of Cole Gorsuch, Hugh Boris, Zach Sutter, and Max Kunisaki earned silver while setting a new program record with a time of 1:27.99.
In the 800 Free Relay, Sam Randall, Justin Nowicki, Kunisaki, and Gavin Jones captured bronze while setting another program record with a time of 6:33.97.
Day two is set to begin with swimming preliminaries at 10 a.m., followed by diving prelims at 1 p.m., and finals at 5:45 p.m. Finals events will feature the 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, and 200 Free Relay.
