VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Villanova University men's tennis team earned a 4-2 victory over Colgate University on Saturday afternoon at the Villanova Tennis Complex.
'CATS SECURE DOUBLES POINT
Villanova grabbed the early advantage by claiming the doubles point with wins on Courts 1 and 3.
Cooper Gordon and
Ethan Carr set the tone with a dominant 6-1 victory over Champ and Vidinr at the top spot.
Quincy Jones and
Jack Sherner followed with a 6-3 win on Court 3 against Lee and McGowen to clinch the point.
Kush Anand and
Thomas Wakefield were also in control on Court 2, leading 6-4 when play concluded.
STRONG RESPONSE IN SINGLES
Colgate responded with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles to take a brief 2-1 lead in the match. Seth defeated Jones (6-3, 6-2), and Lee edged Wakefield (6-4, 7-5) to put the Raiders in front.
The Wildcats answered in a big way.
Ethan Carr evened the match with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles over Falcon.
Kush Anand followed with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 6 against Chung to give Villanova a 3-2 advantage.
Will Monahan delivered the clinching point at No. 3 singles, rallying after dropping the opening set to defeat Bulger 6-7, 6-4, 6-3.
Cameron Kruep was locked in a battle at No. 5 singles, leading 7-5, 2-6, 3-3 when play was halted following the Wildcats' fourth point.
Up Next: Villanova will head to California for the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship starting on February 26.
