BOCA RATON, Fla. — The Villanova softball team fell to Southern Indiana 2-1 at FAU Softball Stadium to end its weekend at the Joan Joyce Classic Sunday.
With the loss, the 'Cats (0-15) went 0-5 on the weekend.
Kat Gallant (L, 0-6) took the circle for her sixth start of the season, pitching 6 2/3 innings, striking out a season-high six, walking two and giving up two runs, only one of which was earned.
The Screaming Eagles (3-9) struck first in the bottom of the first, scoring on an RBI single.
The score remained 1-0 until the top of the sixth inning when a double steal scored
Elizabeth Gray from third to tie the game at 1-1.
USI, the home team in the neutral-site game, won the game in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single off Gallant.

Maranda Runco and
Mackenzie Waghorn each went 1-3 on the day. Runco collected her first double of the season in the sixth inning.
Team leader in hits (9) and batting average (.281)
Lilly St. Jean went 1-2 at the plate.
