BRYN MAWR, Pa. — The Villanova University men's tennis team earned its first victory of the season on Friday, defeating Howard, 5–2, in Bryn Mawr.
The Wildcats secured the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. On court No. 2,
Kush Anand and
Will Monahan delivered a 6–2 victory over Weeks and Bermo, while
Quincy Jones and Sherner followed with a 6–3 win on court No. 3. The court No. 1 match was unfinished, with
Cooper Gordon and
Ethan Carr trailing 5–4 when Villanova clinched the point.
In singles play, senior
Cooper Gordon battled back after dropping the opening set to earn a hard-fought three-set win on court No. 1, 4–6, 6–4, 7–5.
Quincy Jones (court No. 2) and
Will Monahan (court No. 3) were narrowly defeated in competitive matches, with Jones falling 6–4, 6–4 and Monahan dropping a three-set decision, 7–6, 0–6, 6–4.
Junior
Ethan Carr added another point for Villanova with a comeback victory on court No. 4, defeating Lash 5–7, 6–3, 6–2.
Kush Anand and
Cameron Kruep each earned straight-set wins, as Anand prevailed 6–3, 6–2 and Kruep followed with a 6–4, 6–3 victory.
With the win, Villanova improves to 1–2 on the season.
