LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Villanova University men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Ball State University on Sunday, March 1, in La Jolla.
The Cardinals claimed the doubles point and won five of six singles matches to secure the team victory.
DOUBLES
Villanova's top pairing of
Quincy Jones and
Jack Sherner was locked in a tight battle at No. 1 doubles against Lancaster and Hayward, holding a 6-5 edge when the match was halted following Ball State's clinch of the doubles point.
At No. 2, Fletcher and Becaneil defeated
Ethan Carr and
Thomas Wakefield, 6-3, before Caragea and N. Hayward sealed the point with a 7-5 win over
Kush Anand and
Will Monahan at No. 3.
SINGLES
Ball State extended its lead with straight-set wins at the top two positions. Caragea defeated
Will Monahan, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1, while Hayward earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over
Quincy Jones at No. 2.
The Wildcats' lone point came from
Ethan Carr at No. 3 singles. Carr defeated Milette in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
Kimelman picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory over
Thomas Wakefield at No. 4. At No. 5,
Justin Frattarelli fell to Fletcher in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 10-4. N. Hayward closed out the match with a 7-6, 6-4 win over
Cameron Kruep at No. 6.
