VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova men's lacrosse suffered another home loss on Saturday afternoon, falling 17-11 to the Towson Tigers at Villanova Stadium.
Luke Raymond led the way for Villanova (3-4) with his fourth hat trick of the year while David Link and Colin Michener each added a pair of goals.
Kessy Cox, Gavin Michener and Lucas Newton all contributed a goal and an assist for the 'Cats, Dan Martin scored a goal and both Nick Lucchesi and Nolan Sabel put up a helper.
Ryan Cunningham (13-of-17) and George Glomb (7-for-15) combined for a season-high 20 wins at the faceoff spot, Jake Melchionni corralled a team-high eight ground balls in addition to two assists and Beau Kemler caused a game-best three turnovers.
Towson scored a pair of goals within the first minute and a half of the game, but the Wildcats bounced right back with a four-goal run. Link started it with an unassisted tally, then Melchionni pushed transition for a Raymond score. G. Michener sent it into a media timeout with a right-handed rip, then Cox shook his defender and stung a corner for a 4-2 edge.
The Tigers answered with a pair of their own to tie the game, but C. Michener got open for a left-handed hammer to take the lead back before Martin finished the quarter with a righty howitzer to put the 'Cats up 6-4 after one.
It was the visitors once again opening the second with a scoring streak, this time hopping out to a four-goal run for an 8-6 advantage. Raymond had an easy conversion on a Newton feed to pull back within one, then it was Newton turning around a Sabel feed to follow a Towson score for a 9-8 game at the half.
A failed clear for the Tigers gave Villanova the first strike in the second half as Melchionni found an open Link in transition to tie it at nine apiece. Towson scored on a man-up chance to regain the edge, then it took over eight minutes for either team to score again. C. Michener got his second of the day at 3:51 for another tie, but Towson took one back to end the quarter as an 11-10 visitor lead.
Raymond scored in the fourth to complete his hat trick, but it was surrounded by six Tiger goals as the visitors took home a 17-11 victory at Villanova Stadium.
