BALTIMORE, Md. – The Villanova men's tennis team earned a strong road victory on Saturday, March 14, defeating Loyola Maryland
6-1.
The Wildcats opened the match by securing the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. The duo of
Cooper Gordon and Ethan Carr battled to a tight
7-6 victory over Lawliss and Gill at the No. 1 position. Villanova's
Kush Anand and Thomas Wakefield followed with a
6-2 win at No. 2 doubles to clinch the early point for the Wildcats. Loyola Maryland picked up the final doubles match with a
7-6 win at the No. 3 spot.
Villanova carried that momentum into singles play, claiming
five of the six singles matches.
At the top of the lineup,
Cooper Gordon delivered a dominant performance with a
6-0, 6-1 victory over Moldenhaver at No. 1 singles.
Ethan Carr added another point for the Wildcats with a
6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 2 position.
Will Monahan earned a hard-fought three-set victory at No. 3 singles, taking the match 1-6
, 6-1, 6-1, while
Thomas Wakefield secured a
7-5, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.
At No. 6 singles,
Evan Ancu rounded out the scoring for Villanova with a
6-1, 6-1 victory. Loyola Maryland's lone point came at the No. 5 position, where Edwards defeated
Quincy Jones.
