VILLANOVA, Pa. — The Villanova softball team lost 12-5 to Butler Saturday at the VU Softball Complex.
The 'Cats (5-21, 3-3 BIG EAST) now sit at .500 in conference play.
Lexi Kobryn (L, 1-7) got the start for Villanova, pitching two innings, striking out two, walking one and giving up five earned runs on five hits.
Butler (9-9, 2-0) struck first, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning.
The 'Cats responded with a Kobryn RBI fielder's choice in the bottom of the first. Kobryn leads VU in RBIs with 14.
The Bulldogs then scored in the next three innings, extending their lead to 12-2 after four innings.
Lilly St. Jean got a run back in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single that scored
Katie Reed.
Reed then kept the game alive in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run double which scored
Madison Ostrowski and
Jaclyn Morra to make it a 12-5 game. Notably in the inning,
Maranda Runco was intentionally walked, making her the program lead for single-season intentional passes with five.
Runco pitched the fifth and sixth innings, giving up two walks, two hits and a strikeout and keeping Butler at bay.
The Bulldogs closed the game in the bottom of the seventh to clinch the series.
Notably, Morra went 3-4 on the day with a run, marking her second three hit game in three games.
