BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Villanova men's tennis team fell to BIG EAST opponent Marquette, 4-2, on Saturday evening at the Delaware Racquet Club.
The Wildcats opened strong by claiming the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
Kush Anand and
Thomas Wakefield earned a hard-fought 7-5 victory at No. 2, while
Quincy Jones and
Jack Sherner followed with a 6-4 win at No. 3 to secure the early advantage for Villanova.
In singles play, Marquette responded by taking four of the five completed matches to clinch the team victory.
Kush Anand picked up a point for the Wildcats at No. 5 singles, battling to a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win.
Cooper Gordon pushed his match to three sets at the top spot before falling 6-0, 4-6, 6-3, while
Thomas Wakefield was edged in a pair of tight sets at No. 4, 7-5, 7-5.
Will Monahan and
Ethan Carr dropped straight-set decisions at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively.
The No. 6 singles match featuring
Justin Frattarelli went unfinished, with the match split at one set apiece.
