LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Villanova men's tennis team hits the road this weekend, traveling to Lewisburg, Pa. to take on Bucknell on Sunday, March 29. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Villanova enters the match with a 5–9 overall record and is still searching for its first BIG EAST win at 0–2. The Wildcats are coming off a competitive 4–2 loss to conference foe Marquette at home. On the season, Villanova has picked up victories over Howard, Wagner, Colgate, Coppin State, and Loyola Maryland.
In their last outing, the Wildcats started strong by claiming the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
Kush Anand and
Thomas Wakefield earned a hard-fought victory, while
Quincy Jones and
Jack Sherner followed with a solid performance to secure the early advantage.
Villanova will look to carry that momentum into singles play after a tightly contested match against Marquette. Anand picked up a point at No. 5 singles with a three-set victory, while several other matches were closely fought.
Cooper Gordon pushed to three sets at the top spot, and Wakefield battled through two competitive sets at No. 4.
Bucknell enters Sunday's matchup with a 9–8 overall record and a 1–0 mark in conference play. The Bison have earned wins over Mount St. Mary's, Binghamton, Mercyhurst, Temple, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Duquesne, Loyola Maryland, and Saint Francis.
Most recently, Bucknell secured a 6–1 victory over Saint Francis on its home court. While the Bison have been strong at home, they hold a 2–7 record in matches played away from Lewisburg this season.
