LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Villanova men's tennis team faced a tough road test at Bucknell on Saturday afternoon at the Varsity Tennis Courts, with several singles matches going down to the wire.
The Wildcats earned key singles victories from
Thomas Wakefield and James
Quincy Jones at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, showing resilience against a strong Bucknell squad. Wakefield battled through his match, while Jones delivered a solid performance to get Villanova on the board.
At the top of the lineup, Bucknell's players were able to overcome challenges from the Wildcats.
Cooper Gordon pushed Amar Tahirovic to a tiebreak in the first set at No. 1 singles before Tahirovic took the second set 6-2. In other top singles matches, Bucknell's players pulled away, highlighting the competitive depth of the Bison lineup.
In doubles action, Villanova showed moments of promise.
Ethan Carr and
Cooper Gordon nearly rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the No. 1 doubles match, but fell 7-5 to Bucknell's Brendan McDonald and Amar Tahirovic. At No. 2 doubles,
Kush Anand and
Thomas Wakefield competed hard but ultimately dropped a 6-3 decision to Nelson Alapi and Will Robinson.
