Box Score PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Villanova men's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to Saint Joseph's on Tuesday, March 31, in Philadelphia.
Saint Joseph's secured the early advantage by sweeping the doubles point. The Hawks earned wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, both by 6-3 scores, to take a 1-0 lead despite a solid 6-3 victory from Villanova's tandem of Quincy Jones and Jack Sherner at the No. 3 position.
In singles play, Villanova picked up its lone point at the No. 6 spot, where Quincy Jones continued his strong day with a straight-set 6-3, 6-2 win over Hector Fullone.
The Hawks clinched the match with three singles victories. Santiago Valle defeated Cooper Gordon in a three-set battle at No. 1 singles, while Ernesto Ruy earned a straight-set win over Will Monahan at No. 2. Jak Gaudreau Barnes secured the deciding point with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Thomas Wakefield at No. 4.
Two matches went unfinished, including Ethan Carr's contest at No. 3 singles and Kush Anand's match at No. 5, both of which were still in progress when the match was decided.
Villanova moves to 5-11 on the season and will take on Rider in Lawrencville, N.J. tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. start.
