Marco Langon and Men’s Distance Medley Relay Team Qualify for NCAA Championships

Indoor national meet takes places in Fayetteville, Ark. on March 13-14

VILLANOVA, Pa.—Senior distance runner Marco Lagon (Raritan, N.J.) and the Villanova men's distance medley relay team qualified for the 2026 Indoor Track & Field Championships which take place next week on March 13-14 in Fayetteville, Ark. The selected athletes for the national meet were announced on Tuesday night and Langon is the top qualifier in the 3000 meters as well as tied for the fastest qualifying time in the 5000 meters. The men's distance medley relay squad owned the fourth-fastest time in the nation during the season.

Langon will double in the 3K and the 5K at the NCAA Championships for the second straight year after setting school records in both events this season. He ran 13:05.21 in the 5000 meters in December at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston and has set the 3K record twice this year, most recently with a time of 7:34.00 in Boston on February 13. He finished sixth in the 5K and seventh in the 3K at the NCAA Championships last year to earn first team All-America honors in both events.

The national championship race in the 5K is scheduled for 7:25 p.m. Central time (8:25 p.m. Eastern time) on Friday, March 13 at Lance Harter Track at the Randal Tyson Track Center. The championship race in the distance medley relay follows later in the evening at 8:30 p.m. Central time (7:30 ET) and the 3000 meters national championship is on Saturday at 6:25 p.m. Central time (7:25 ET).

In addition to his individual top times, Langon anchored the distance medley relay to the third-fastest time in NCAA history on February 20 at the Philadelphia Metro. Villanova finished that race with a school record time of 9:16.10 with a lineup that included graduate student Sean Donoghue (Dublin, Ireland) leading off followed by junior Ethan Walls (Ridgefield, Conn.), junior Dan Watcke (Hinsdale, Ill.) and Langon.

Donoghue and Langon recorded the fastest splits in school history on 1200 meter and 1600 meter relay legs with marks of 2:50.02 and 3:50.75, respectively. The relay team's time of 9:16.10 currently ranks fourth among the 12 selected teams for the national meet.
