LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Villanova women's lacrosse earned an 11-5 victory over previously undefeated Siena on Wednesday afternoon.
Villanova (4-2) came out firing in the opening quarter, with six different Wildcats registering points. The Wildcats scored three times in the first five minutes to gain early momentum. Madison Freeman opened the scoring off an assist from Sophia Corretjer. Freeman also collected three ground balls and caused a turnover in the contest.
Elena Torres followed with a free-position goal, and Mary Moore converted on her own free-position attempt to give Villanova a 3-0 lead. Rose Christie then found the back of the net off a feed from Kathryn Monaco. Corretjer added her lone goal of the afternoon before assisting Jillian Vaught for another score for a three-point day from #1. Moore capped the quarter with her second goal of the day, sending the Wildcats into the second period with a 7-1 advantage.
Bella Piselli accounted for Villanova's lone goal of the second quarter, finishing an assist from Vaught. The Wildcats carried an 8-3 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, Freeman tallied her second goal of the game, and Torres (three assists on the day) connected with Vaught for her second score of the afternoon. Villanova's defense held Siena scoreless for over 14 minutes in the period, extending the lead to 10-4 entering the final quarter.
Moore notched the team's only score in the fourth quarter with another free-position goal, securing her second hat trick of the season in an 11-5 victory.
Villanova controlled the draw, 13-5, behind nine draw controls from Emma Verhoest. Goalkeeper Makenzie Fisher recorded nine saves in the win, Anne Edens tied a game-high with two caused turnovers and Alex Maloney made her first collegiate appearance.
