BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Villanova men's tennis team delivered a dominant performance on Sunday evening, sweeping Coppin State, 7-0, at the Villanova Tennis Complex. The Wildcats controlled the match from start to finish, claiming the doubles point before rolling through singles play to secure the shutout victory.
DOUBLES DOMINANCE
Villanova set the tone early in doubles action, capturing all three courts to take the opening point.
The duo of
Cooper Gordon and Ethan Carr picked up a strong 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position to start the momentum for the Wildcats. At No. 2 doubles,
Thomas Wakefield and Kush Anand were nearly flawless, blanking their opponents 6-0.
Rounding out the sweep,
Jack Sherner and Quincy Jones secured a convincing 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot to clinch the doubles point for Villanova.
'CATS CRUISE IN SINGLES
With momentum firmly on their side, the Wildcats carried that energy into singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets.
At the top spot,
Cooper Gordon led the charge with a 6-3, 6-1 win.
Ethan Carr followed with a strong 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles.
Will Monahan continued the dominant showing at the No. 3 position, defeating his opponent 6-2, 6-1. At No. 4 singles,
Quincy Jones surged after a competitive first set to close out a 6-4, 6-0 win.
Villanova kept the momentum rolling late in the lineup as
Ryan Benoit delivered one of the most decisive performances of the day with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles.
Ethan Solop capped off the sweep at the No. 6 spot, battling through a tough second set to earn a 6-1, 7-5 win and seal the 7-0 shutout.
