COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Villanova men's tennis team will close out its spring campaign on Saturday, April 11, with a BIG EAST matchup against Georgetown in College Park, Md. First serve is set for 10:45 a.m.
Prior to the season finale, the Wildcats will host St. John's on April 7 at 2:30 p.m. and Lehigh on April 8 at 2:30 p.m.
Villanova is coming off a 4-0 loss to Lehigh in its most recent outing at home. The Mountain Hawks seized early control by capturing the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Wyeth Anzilotti and Henry Stoller earned a 6-4 victory over Ethan Carr and Cooper Gordon at the top spot, while Rafael Gracie and Kosei Ogata followed with a 6-3 win against Kush Anand and Thomas Wakefield on court three. The doubles match on court two, featuring Quincy Jones and Jack Sherner, was left unfinished.
Lehigh carried that momentum into singles play, securing three straight-set victories to clinch the match. Alex Van Lumich defeated Cooper Gordon, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1 singles, while Aleksand Daskalovic posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Will Monahan on court three. Benedi Horn-Bourque sealed the match with a 6-2, 7-5 victory against Thomas Wakefield at No. 4.
Several matches remained in progress when play was halted. Ethan Carr had claimed the first set in his match against Kosei Ogata, while Cameron Kruep and Jack Sherner were also competing in unfinished contests.
Georgetown enters the weekend nearing the end of its season, with a Friday matchup against Mount St. Mary's preceding Saturday's contest against Villanova. The Hoyas hold a 5-14 overall record and are 2-3 in BIG EAST play, with wins over Howard, Butler, Marquette, Loyola (Md.), and Saint Joseph's. In their last outing, Georgetown fell to DePaul, 5-2, on April 3.
In last season's meeting between the two programs, Georgetown defeated Villanova by a 4-1 margin.
