PISCATAWAY, N.J.—Junior sprinter
Ethan Walls (Ridgefield, Conn.) broke 48 seconds for the first time in his career and recorded the fastest 400 meters by a Villanova runner in six years at the Rutgers Relays on Saturday afternoon. His performance was part of a successful day which saw the Wildcats combine to tally eight personal bests across five events at the Bauer Track & Field Complex.
Walls was the runner-up out of more than 50 runners in the 400 meters with a lifetime best mark of 47.95. It is the fastest time for a Villanova runner since the 2020 indoor season and lowers the previous personal best he had set at last year's outdoor BIG EAST Championships. All five Wildcats who ran the 400 meters on Saturday finished in the top 10 overall.
Senior
Jimmy Milgie (Wildwood, Mo.) posted a season best mark for the second straight outing and came in fifth with a time of 48.49, followed by
Andy Geiser (Aldie, Va.) who tallied personal bests on the day in both the 400 meters (48.61) and the 200 meters (22.07). Junior
Matthew Griffin (Whippany, N.J.) and senior
Luke Rakowitz (Dallas, Texas) posted season bests of 49.05 and 49.12, respectively.
Later in the afternoon, senior
Amiri Prescod (Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago) tied his lifetime best in the 100 meters with a time of 10.48. He surged into the top four in the BIG EAST this season with the mark which he first recorded at the conference championships two years ago. Junior
Parker Turner (Los Angeles, Calif.) tallied times of 10.60 in the 100 meters and 21.51 in the 200 meters on the afternoon, while freshman
Christos Batalias (New York, N.Y.) recorded a PR of 11.11 in the 100 meters.
Sophomore
Liam Gluck (Beavercreek, Ohio) finished second in the 400 meter hurdles with a PR of 54.69, with the Villanova quartet of Gluck, senior
Sal Barretta (Whitestone, N.Y.), senior
Ronan O'Neill (Wilmette, Ill.) and freshman
Ty Hoffmann (Bellingham, Wash.) all posting their top times of the season. Barretta finished fifth with a time of 55.25 ad O'Neill was seventh in 55.61.
In the field events, sophomore
Chris Coulter (Philadelphia, Pa.) had the top result for the Wildcats in the throws with a seventh place finish in the shot put. He recorded a season best distance of 14.47 meters and added a PR of 38.38 meters in the discus. Junior
Aidan Shay (Selinsgrove, Pa.) registered a collegiate PR of 51.70 meters in the javelin.
