Wildcats Wrap Up Weekend at Knecht Cup

The V8 and 2V4 finished ninth overall in their showings with the V8 being the highest-finishing CAA boat

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. – Villanova wrapped up its weekend of racing at the Knecht Cup Sunday on the Cooper River.

The Wildcats saw a total of six races in the final day of action, starting with two semifinal showings. By the end of the day, the Wildcats boasted one of the strongest CAA teams in the field, especially in the V8 with the 'Cats finishing higher than all other conference foes in the field including UConn, Albany, Drexel, Monmouth and Bryant.

The 2V8 group of Kate Shipley, Sadhbh McDonnell, Sabrina Pauli, Sarah Kearney, Silvana Torres, Anabelle Wang, Natalia Brozyna, Abi Siddons, Mary Tracy crossed fifth in its semifinal with a time of 7:36.94, landing it in the third final. There they finished third in 7:17.82 for a 15th overall finish.

In the V8 semifinals, Cate Donnelly, Maggie Coyne, Jalyn Colon, Sylvia Marks, Ava DeJong, Ella Cooper, Farrah Bardouille, Sarah Robillard and Natalia Peng crossed in 7:20.95 for a spot in the second final. They faced a close race down the stretch to be just beat out by Jacksonville's final kick, finishing third in the race at 6:58.57, a mere .25 second behind the Dolphins. Fellow CAA team UConn trailed the 'Cats by almost two seconds in a finish that put the Blue and White V8 at ninth overall.

The 2V4 was the first boat to race in a final on the day. The crew of Lorelei Cadorette, Ella Larken, Isabelle Rotival, Taylor Pansy and Lilly-Kate Foley fell into a tight race that saw just three seconds separating the first three boats but ended up taking third in the race at 8:42.69, less than a second behind Boston College and just under three seconds after Jacksonville for a ninth-overall placement.

The V4 also saw a close showdown as it darted to the finish in Final 3. Abby Shang, Nicola Ranone, Eliska Bohmanova, Emmi Stanton and Mary Eagle were able to withstand a surging La Salle to best them by nearly five seconds for the top spot in the final and 13th overall at 8:36.42.

Villanova gets a week away from action before hitting the road to the Tar Heel State for the Lake Wheeler Invite on April 24 and 25.
