Men's Tennis Falls To St. John's In First Round Of BIG EAST Tournament

Red Storm Win 4-0

CAYCE, S.C. – The Villanova men's tennis team saw its BIG EAST Tournament run come to an end on Friday, April 17, falling to top-seeded St. John's, 4-0, in the opening round.

St. John's seized early control by claiming the doubles point with wins on courts two and one. The Red Storm earned a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles before securing the point with a 6-2 win on court one. Villanova picked up a strong result on court three, where Jack Sherner and Quincy Jones notched a 6-3 victory, but it was not enough to swing momentum.

In singles play, St. John's continued its dominance, collecting three straight-set victories to clinch the match. The Red Storm took wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 singles to secure the 4-0 decision.

Despite the final score, Villanova showed competitiveness on several courts. Ethan Carr held a 7-5, 2-2 lead at No. 2 singles when the match was decided, while Thomas Wakefield and Luke Kruep were also in the midst of their matches.

With the loss, the Wildcats conclude their 2026 season in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament.
