Villanova wasted no time offensively, erupting for seven runs in the second inning.
John Freitag sparked the rally with an RBI double, scoring
Carter Richey after his leadoff two-bagger. A sacrifice fly from
Larry Hotaling and a bases-loaded walk by
Brayden Leonard extended the lead, while a wild pitch pushed the margin to four.
Michael Whooley added to the outburst with a two-run single, later coming around to score as the Wildcats jumped out to a 7-0 advantage.
Delaware State responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning, all unearned following two Villanova errors.
Holding an 8-6 lead, Villanova created separation with a five-run fifth inning.
Austin Lemon launched his first home run of the season, a two-run shot, while
Collin Quintano added a two-run double. The Wildcats plated another run on a passed ball to make it 13-6.
The offensive surge continued late, as Freitag and
Jake Bollin each homered in the seventh and eighth innings. Bollin's three-run blast highlighted the eighth, and he capped his day with a two-run single in the ninth. Bollin finished with five RBI as Villanova cruised to the 20-10 victory.
