AZUSA, Calif.—Senior distance runner
Marco Langon (Raritan, N.J.) made history in the 1500 meters on Saturday night when he ran the fastest race ever by a Villanovan during the collegiate regular season. Langon lowered his lifetime PR to 3:32.79 at the Franson Last Chance on Saturday to record the No. 2 time in both collegiate history and the Villanova record book. The race was paced in 2:37 through the first 1100 meters and Langon closed with a 55.60 bell lap in his latest accomplishment of a 2026 season stacked with them.
Langon's finishing time of 3:32.79 is the eighth-fastest in the world this year and the world's No. 4 outdoor time of the year. He now stands with Wildcats legend and Hall of Famer
Sydney Maree as the only two Villanovans in history to break 3:33 in the 1500 meters. Maree ran 3:32.30 on September 12, 1981, in Hamburg, West Germany. Maree set a then-collegiate record of 3:35.30 at the NCAA Championships on June 6, 1981; the record stood for 37 years before being broken during the 2018 collegiate outdoor season.
This is the second time in the last 14 months that Langon has made a run at the collegiate record in the 1500 meters. His previous PR was 3:33.38 at the Raleigh Relays in March 2025 when his teammate
Liam Murphy set a collegiate record at 3:33.02. Langon and Murphy now rank No. 2 and No. 3 in NCAA history for times that occurred during the collegiate regular season.
Langon is an eight-time All-American during his collegiate career and came into the 2026 outdoor campaign after finishing in the top three of both the 3000 meters and the 5000 meters at the indoor NCAA Championships earlier this year. He will continue the outdoor season at the BIG EAST Championships next week.
