PRINCETON, N.J.—Senior sprinters
Sal Barretta (Whitestone, N.Y.) and
Ronan O'Neill (Wilmette, Ill.) were the top two finishers in their heat of the 400 meter hurdles and each recorded season best times at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Villanova wrapped up two days of competition at Princeton with eight athletes in action in the sprints and shot put.
Barretta won the fourth heat of the hurdles with the second fastest time of his career. He crossed the finish line in 54.37 which trails only the PR of 53.85 which he recorded at the BIG EAST Championships last season in a bronze medal and All-BIG EAST performance. Barretta lowered his top time this season by nearly nine-tenths of a second and moved into the top eight on this year's BIG EAST descending order list.
O'Neill was the runner-up to Barretta in their heat in a season best time of 54.93. It is the third-fastest time of O'Neill's career and comes on the same track where he recorded his PR of 54.56 in this same meet one year ago.
Earlier in the afternoon, junior
Matthew Griffin (Whippany, N.J.) was second in his heat of the 400 meters in 49.06, just one hundredth of a second off his top time this year. Senior
