VILLANOVA, Pa. — The Villanova softball team closed the 2026 season with a 1-0 victory over St. John's Sunday to clinch a sweep.
The 'Cats (14-39, 7-17 BIG EAST) win was their first 1-0 win of the season.
Maggie King (W, 3-6) wrapped up her freshman campaign with her best start of 2026, pitching four perfect and five no-hit innings. King struck out four, walked one and gave up a single hit in the sixth inning.
Kat Gallant (S, 1) picked up her first save of the season in her final career game, pitching an inning, striking out one and giving up one hit.
Maranda Runco broke the single-season walk record in the first inning, her 46th of 2026, surpassing Paige Rauch. Runco finished the season with a team-leading nine home runs, bringing her total to 30 in her career.
Villanova only needed one run against Red Storm (32-23, 9-15) starter Ana Serafinko, who put together a stellar start herself in a complete game effort.
In the final game of her career,
Lilly St. Jean was the difference, hitting an RBI single in the bottom of the first which scored Runco.
Villanova is expecting 14 returners to the 2027 team.
Bridget Orchard's total record at VU following the 2026 campaign is 223-187-1.
