VILLANOVA, Pa. - It was the first full week of games for Villanova Athletics with a total of nine events from August 24-30. Football, Field Hockey, and Volleyball all kicked off their seasons over the weekend, with the two women's sports earning their first wins of the season.  It was a high scoring Sunday for the Wildcats to end the week. Women's soccer exploded for an 11-0 victory over Iona, which was the second-most goals in a single game in team history. Field Hockey also put up a big shutout, winning 7-0 against La Salle. Field Hockey
Gemma Lysaght
Senior, Back, Christchurch, New Zealand
 
Lysaght scored four goals and tallied three assists across two games, winning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week as a result. She was the engine behind Villanova's 7-0 rout of La Salle, putting up a career-high four goals and assisting two more. She opened the scoring just one minute into the game, setting the tone for the upcoming barrage. She scored her next three in succession at 20:01, 44:04, and 54:57. Her two assists came on the final two goals. Lysaght picked up one assist in Villanova's season opening 2-1 win over Delaware. Her lone assist set up Colleen Finnan's goal, which ended up being the difference to assure a Wildcat victory.

Omari Bursey
Sophomore, Linebacker, Broomfield, Colo.
 
Bursey was the defensive anchor for Villanova against William & Mary. He nearly doubled his career high for tackles with 15 on the day, contributing eight solo tackles to match his previous high individual stops. Four of his takedowns were for a loss, and Bursey also picked up a two-yard sack in the second quarter.
 
Men's Soccer
Luke Martelli
Redshirt Junior, Defense/Midfield, Kinzers, Pa.
 
Martelli was the key to Villanova forcing the 1-1 tie against Princeton. The Tigers scored the go-ahead goal in the 72^nd minute, but Martelli took matters into his own hands and found the back of the net just two minutes later for his first goal of the season. He also played for 45 minutes in the Wildcats' 1-0 victory over Saint Peter's.
 
Women's Soccer
Meredith Palmer
Junior, Defense, Waxhaw, N.C.
 
Palmer was the defensive anchor in both of Villanova's shutout wins en route to a BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week win. She played all 90 minutes in the 2-0 Wildcat victory over Columbia. She played the opening 69 minutes of Villanova's dominating 11-0 win over Iona, grabbing a goal of her own in the 63^rd minute. She sent a header into the back right of the net off of Abby Graul's corner kick for the seventh Wildcat goal of the day.
 
Volleyball
Campbell McKinnon
Junior, Middle Blocker, Collierville, Tenn.
 
McKinnon was named to the all-tournament team for her performances in Villanova's three matches at the Asics Classic. She led the team with 38 kills and 21 blocks in the tournament, pacing all Wildcats in blocks in each of the three matches. She led the way with 14 kills on a .579 hitting percentage in the match against Pepperdine, also adding six blocks. She upped her defensive game in Villanova's 3-1 victory against Sacramento State with a career high 11 blocks. Offensively, she scored 16.5 points on seven kills and two aces. Campell tallied 17 kills in the 3-1 Wildcat win against South Dakota State, including the final two kills in the final set to clinch the victory.
