Riding a five-game unbeaten streak to start the season, Villanova (3-0-2) continues its long road stint with a trip to Morgantown, W.Va. on Sunday to face West Virginia (2-4-1). Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. from Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.

This Wildcats have proven to be a dangerous opponent on the road in 2023, going 2-0-1 while outscoring opponents 7-1 away from the Main Line. The last game brought another 3-0 shutout win for the 'Cats with two-time BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll selection Jackie Richards scoring two header goals followed by one from Alex Little.

A win or draw on Sunday would mark the team's first six-game unbeaten streak to open a season since the 2021 campaign when the Wildcats won six straight. The ‘Cats are one of three BIG EAST teams to not have a loss on the season yet, joined by St. John’s (4-0-1) and No. 13 Georgetown (4-0-2). Currently, Villanova is working with an eight-match unbeaten streak that extends back to last season when the Wildcats closed the season with a win and a pair of draws that started with a 0-0 draw with UConn on Oct. 20. It has been 329 days since the team last faced a defeat, falling to Marquette, 1-0, on Oct. 16, 2022.

This trip to Morgantown will renew a series with the Mountaineers that dates back to 1996. Since then, the two sides have met 21 previous times with Villanova trailing West Virginia 5-11-5 all-time. It is the first meeting since Villanova fell to a No. 11 Mountaineer squad 8-0 on Sept. 6, 2015.

The Mountaineers are looking for their first win in three games. WVU used a 1-1 draw against Auburn on Thursday to bounce back after a pair of losses to No. 12 Virginia and Liberty. The group’s lone wins on the season game against Saint Francis is dominating 9-0 fashion on August 20 and 1-0 against Duquesne on August 27. The Mountaineers have been strong at home, holding a 2-1-1 record at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.

Taylor White leads the team in goal scoring, netting four of the team’s 14 goals this season. She has also recorded an assist for a team-high nine points. Dilary Heredia-Beltran has produced a team-leading 18 shot attempts, also leading with nine on frame and three assists. Kayza Massey has been the primary starter for the Mountaineers this season, starting in net for all seven games. The Big 12 Co-Goalkeeper of the Year for 2022 has made allowed 10 goals in 585 minutes of action, making 21 saves with a 2-4-1 record, accounting for one shutout in that time.
