Darryl Reynolds, a part of the accomplished Villanova Basketball Class of 2017, assumed the Student Athlete Development post held in prior years by Jason Fraser, Curtis Sumpter, Brooks Sales and Mike Nardi ahead of 2018-19. The staff helped direct the Wildcats to a 26-10 record that included BIG EAST regular season and Tournament championships.
“The goal with this position is to allow a former player to gain a real life introduction to our profession,” stated head coach Jay Wright. “Jason, Curt, Brooks and Mike all became valued mentors to our players and we have already seen Darryl make an impact in a similar way with this group. Darryl has always been a great representative of Villanova University and we’re excited to have him with us in 2018-19.”
Reynolds and classmates Josh Hart and Kris Jenkins were part of Wildcats’ teams that won 129 games from 2013-17 – the most in program history. The 6-8 Reynolds graduated from Lower Merion High School and was a key reserve as a junior on the 2016 NCAA national championship unit. As a senior, he moved into the starting lineup for a squad that finished 32-4 and earned both the BIG EAST regular season and tournament championship.
After earning a Villanova degree in May 2017, Reynolds spent the 2017-18 season playing professionally in Europe. He also has a growing media brand that includes a podcast and webcast. He was part of the BIG EAST Digital Network coverage of the 2019 BIG EAST Tournament presented by Jeep.
