Josh West joined the Villanova Men’s Soccer coaching staff in the summer of 2022 after having served as Director of Soccer Operations at the University of Pennsylvania during the 2021-22 season.
“Josh is a huge asset to our staff,” stated Villanova head coach Tom Carlin. “He is a great on the field trainer and has an ‘all-in’ mindset to every aspect of our program. Josh will mainly work with our attacking players.”
A native of Stafford, Va., West played four seasons of soccer as a forward at the College of William & Mary, starting all 37 games he appeared in over his final two seasons before graduating in 2015. As a senior in 2014 he scored one goal and delivered a team-high six assists for the Tribe.
West began his coaching career shortly after graduation. He was named the head coach of the junior varsity boys' program at Jamestown while assisting the varsity team that won the State Tournament Championship.
From 2015-21 he coached all ages of club and varsity boys' and girls' soccer in Virginia and Georgia, with his most recent venture being at Cedar Shoals High School. While teaching four years of high school special education and mathematics, he served as the varsity head coach for the girls' team and the Assistant Athletics Director.
During his time in Georgia, West was also the head coach for the Athens United u15 and u16 boys' team for two years where he led the u15 team to No. 2 in the Georgia Premier League and the u16 boys to a promotion in consecutive years from Classic 3 to Classic 1.
West is the son of Michelle and Michael West. His father played baseball at Penn State.
