2018-19: In his third year on the Villanova swim team he competed in five events at three different meets. Spina swam in the 50-yard freestyle, 100 and 200-yard breaststroke, 400-free relay and 200-medley relay. He recorded a season best in the 50-free (21.78) and the 100-breaststroke (58.66) against West Virginia. His two top relay times came against Penn, in the 400-free his team posted a 3:09.16 finish and in the 200-medley they posted 1:34.66.  

2017-18: Spina swam in 10 events during his sophomore year, including five at the BIG EAST Championships which he earned All-BIG EAST team recognition for. He recorded five new personal bests four of which came at the championships. Spina recorded new personal bests in the 50, 100 and 200-freestyle and 100-breaststroke. He recorded a time of 20.84 in the 50, at the Rutgers Penta Meet he recorded a time of 47.89, in the 100, in the 200 he clocked a time of 1:47.58, and in the 100-breast he recorded a 57.19. He also helped his 200-medley relay and 200-freestyle relay team set new program records after earning two first place finishes at the BIG EAST Championships. In the 200-medley relay they clocked a time of 1:28.53 and in the 200-freestyle relay they recorded a time of 1:20.78.

2016-17: Swam in three individual events at the BIG EAST Championships…Had a time of 21.61 in the 50-yard freestyle at the meet…Recorded a time of 47.92 in the 100-yard freestyle…Clocked in at 58.18 in the time trials of the 100-yard breaststroke, which was the fourth-fastest time on the team this year…Competed primarily in freestyle and breaststroke events during the season.
 

Ardrey Kell High School: Four-year varsity letter winner under coach Julio Zarate...Team MVP in 2015-16...Earned All-Conference honors (2013-16) and All-Region honors (2013-15)...Named an NISCA All-American in 2014-15 and a Speedo Scholastic All-American in 2016...Participated in Knight is action and was a member of the National Technical Honors Society...Placed 4th in the nation for engineering design in TSA.

Personal: Son of Dawn and Joseph Spina Jr...Brother to Gabriella...Majoring in Business with hopes of becoming an accountant...High school teammate of current Villanova swimmer Christine Sullivan...Enjoys watching movies, Chicago sports and The Office...Avid fan of the Chicago Cubs...Chose Villanova because of the fantastic athletics and academics.
