Dan Avington came to Villanova in August 2022 and earned a promotion to his current role of Media Relations Coordinator in 2023.
After spending his first year on the Main Line as an intern, Avington serves as the primary contact for volleyball and softball.
Prior to Villanova, Avington worked for two years as a communications assistant and play-by-play broadcaster for Marquette Athletics, where he produced written and multimedia content for the athletics website and team social media pages. He also functioned as the assistant to the media coordinator for the 2022 NCAA Tournament at Fiserv Forum.
During his college career, he served as a communications intern with the Milwaukee Admirals, the AHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators, for the 2021-22 season. He managed team social media accounts, produced articles for the team website and video highlights for the YouTube channel and compiled statistics after 75-plus team games for the media guide.Â
In addition, Avington spent a summer as the play-by-play broadcaster for the Muskegon Clippers, a college summer baseball team in Michigan.Â
A 2022 graduate of Marquette University with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a minor in digital media, Avington spent two years in the sports branch of the Marquette Wire, the school's student media organization. There, he served as the beat reporter for the volleyball, women's basketball and men's lacrosse teams while also serving as on-air talent for live remote and studio broadcasts as well as hosting a weekly podcast.
