Roxanne Smith, DPT, OCS, SCS, ATC, DAC, CCI, CCCE, serves as the Physical Therapist for Villanova University Athletics, a position she has held since 2016. In addition to providing direct patient care and performance-focused rehabilitation for Villanova student-athletes, she oversees the coordination and administration of physical therapy services across the Athletics department.
Prior to joining Villanova, Smith served as the Physical Therapist at Haverford College from 2008 to 2016. She has practiced as a licensed physical therapist since 2004 and has been a certified athletic trainer since 2003. Throughout her career, she has worked with athletes at multiple levels of competition, including serving with the USA Indoor Field Hockey World Cup Team during international travel to South Africa, Austria, and Croatia. In addition to her role at Villanova, she serves as Manager of NovaCare Rehabilitation in Broomall, Pennsylvania.
Smith earned a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine with a minor in Biology from Ursinus College in 2001 and completed her athletic training education through West Chester University. She went on to earn her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Arcadia University in 2004.
Her professional interests include Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S), hip impingement and its effects on athletic performance, ACL rehabilitation, and the benefits of a multidisciplinary approach to student-athlete health and performance. Smith holds board certifications in both Sports and Orthopedic Physical Therapy and is a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist. She has also completed advanced training in concussion rehabilitation and Functional Range Conditioning (FRCms).
Raised in an Army family, Smith spent her childhood moving throughout the country before attending high school in Northern Virginia. She currently resides in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, with her husband, Ryan, a member of the Ursinus College Athletic Hall of Fame for Baseball. They have two children: Parker, who began his freshman year at Villanova in 2026, and Payton, a student at Episcopal Academy who has committed to play field hockey as a goalkeeper at the University of Maryland beginning in 2028.
Outside of her professional responsibilities, Smith enjoys reading, training while walking with her weighted vest, following a wide variety of sports, and staying current with evidence-based practices in sports medicine and rehabilitation.
