Ty Bigelow serves as an associate athletic trainer at Villanova, providing medical care to the women’s soccer, cross country and track & field teams.

During his time at Villanova, he's also been a research partner with the Villanova College of Engineering for a study titled "A Computational Model for ACL Injuries in Female Soccer Players," which aims to use data and machine learning to help predict injury risk and prevent ACL injury.

In addition to his position at VU, Ty currently serves as a US Olympic and Paralympic Committee Sports Medicine volunteer and a Course Athletic Trainer at the Boston Marathon. 

Bigelow came to Villanova in 2019 from West Virginia University as a graduate assistant athletic trainer where he provided medical care to the track & field team. While there, he conducted and published research on iron deficiency in female distance runners and developed the emergency action plan for the track & field program’s new facility. He also served as the Elite Runner Athletic Trainer for the USATF Half Marathon Championships in 2018.

Prior to West Virginia, Bigelow worked at the University of Richmond providing medical care for the football and field hockey teams.

Bigelow has a passion for leadership in athletic training. During his doctorate studies, he published research on ocular concussion assessment tools providing guidance to clinicians for improving assessment selection. He served on the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Student Leadership Committee and has presented and moderated at various state and national symposiums. He also serves as a clinical preceptor for various athletic training programs mentoring students.

Bigelow earned his Doctor of Athletic Training degree from Moravian University in 2022, Master of Science in athletic training degree from West Virginia University in 2019 and Bachelor of Science in athletic training degree from James Madison University in 2016 in addition to a Master of Business Administration at Moravian in 2024. He is licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine and certified by the Board of Certification.
