Wildcats Lose to Boston College in Big East Volleyball

Villanova, Pa.--- In Big East volleyball action on Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Jake Nevin Field House, the Villanova University volleyball team lost to the visiting Boston College Eagles 3-1 (13-15, 15-8, 13-15, 15-3). With the loss, the Wildcats drop to 8-12 overall and 0-3 in the Big East, while Boston College improves to 7-10 overall in 2-1 in conference play.

For Villanova in the loss, junior Tina Zitterich returned from injury by coming off the bench to contribute team highs in kills with 14 and blocks with five. Junior Breen Eddinger and freshman Leah Mathews recorded double figures in kills as well, with 13 and 11 respectively. Freshman Erin Birunas had a career-high in digs with 18.

The Eagles used a balanced attack to defeat the Wildcats on Saturday. Rachel Bach led the Eagles with 14 kills, while Kristin Sprinkel and Julia El-Hag (24 digs) each had 12 and Lauren Schwer had 10. Setter Kyleen Charlton added nine kills, 48 assists and 19 digs.

Villanova will resume Big East play on Sunday, Oct. 10, hosting Providence College at 1:00 p.m.
