Fairfield Slips Past Wildcats

Fairfield, Conn. - Trailing 12-11 with 6:50 left, Andrew Bogle intercepted a Stag pass and went on for the unassisted score, knotting the game at 12. But, Spencer Steele netted his fifth goal of the game with 5:28 remaining in the contest to put Fairfield over ahead as the Wildcats came up shot in the last minutes of play, as the Stags handed Villanova their second-straight loss, 13-12.

Bogle put the Wildcats (5-5) on the board first, just 44 seconds into the game, but Fairfield's Jim Reichert returned the favor as he netted a score 46 seconds later. The teams traded goals again before Villanova took a 3-2 advantage on Christopher Larson's late first quarter score. But the Stags weren't done, they netted two more goals to give themselves a 4-3 lead after one.

Fairfield struck twice early in the second quarter, pumping up their lead to 7-4, but the Wildcats answered with three straight scores, tying the contest, 7-7. Each traded a goal before the break, leaving the game at 8-8 at the end of two quarters.

The Stags opened up yet another quarter on fire with two Stag goals, but Eric Dauer netted two of his three scores, tying the contest up again. Narc Torrey's goal with 7:43 remaining in the third gave Fairfield an 11-10 lead into the last period of play.

Villanova was led by John McTigue who tallied a career-high six points on two goals and four assists and Andrew Bogle added two goals and three assists. Wildcats Christopher Larson and Eric Dauer also netted two goals apeice in the loss. For the Stags (6-4), Spencer Steele had five goals and one assist, while Josh Olsen recorded 14 saves.
